American Express Red

Helping others and our environment are two very important things.  With the new American Express Red credit card you are able to help others just by having the card.  This is the first benefit in obtaining the American Express Red Card that should have you thinking twice about saying no.  The American Express Red Credit Card offers 1% of your purchase made on the card to the Global Fund.  The Global Fund is designed to help individuals in Africa in Aids.  In fact it is designed to help eliminate the spread of Aids by giving the mothers treatments to prevent transmission to the child during pregnancy.  This sounds like a worthy cause for a credit card, which gives it top marks for taking a little of their profit to help those in need.  According to American Express, by spending a hundred dollars on your card you are able to provide 17 treatments to those in Africa.

This card doesn’t have any other promotional offers to help you out.  They do not allow balance transfer introductory rates.  There is also no introductory rate for purchases.  The interest rate on the card is 16.9 percent variable, which means it can increase over the life of the card.  With American Express Red you can have more than one card on the account.  This allows you to help more individuals in Africa.

The card doesn’t seem to have an annual fee for having the card, which is a definite plus over other cards with American Express.  When reviewing this card we found the same terms and conditions of most cards.  You will have to maintain your payments in order to avoid getting charged any time for late or missed payments fees.  If you pay off the balance every month you are not going to be charged the interest.  The interest rate will rise if you are seen as a higher risk.   American Express does have the universal default option, in which a slight change in your credit scores can have the interest rate rising.

American Express does have the loyalty programme.  As you continue to be a customer, you find there are benefits in getting your APR lowered if you maintain a proper risk level.  You may also find that over time the Red card may offer you some benefits for all the help you have offered to those struggling in Africa.

The American Express Red Card has been on the market since 2006 helping Africans.  If you are a humanitarian this card would be one of the best for you.  It really doesn’t matter what the APR is if you are truly set on helping an individual with some purchases.  As we mentioned, if you pay off the card every month you won’t be charged the high interest and you could over time get the interest lowered, once you prove your risk is minimal.  During our review of the card we found it is available to help those in need over helping yourself.
