The Breakthrough Breast Cancer credit card is a visa card.  Visa cards are the most accepted credit card around the world in over a million retail shops.  When you have a charity you would like to contribute to there are a few options for you.  First you can donate directly to the charity or you can choose a card that will donate for you.  The Breakthrough Breast Cancer card is a charity card in which a portion of what you spend is turned into a donation.  You don’t have to spend anything extra to donate with this card.  The credit card company is the one creating the donation from what they make.  The donation is set up to help research and education regarding breast cancer.  This credit card is offered through MBNA bank.  According to their website they have over 50,000 breakthrough breast cancer cards in circulation at the moment.  They are trying to increase this amount to 1 million in this year.  Obviously the more cards they have the more research and education they can help you with.  So now that you know the basis of the card, let’s look at what it can offer you.

You shouldn’t just take out a card because it offers help to your favourite charity, because it could put you in debt.  Making a difference is important and MBNA seems to know that.  They offer an introductory period on balance transfers and purchases.

For the first 12 months you have the card you have zero percent interest on any balance transfer you make.  You do need to make the balance transfer within the first 60 days of the account opening to take advantage of the deal.  The purchase period is zero percent interest for 3 months.  After the three months the purchase rate goes to 15.9 percent.  The balance transfer interest rate will be the same after the first 12 months.

This annual percentage rate is in line with other offers you can find on the internet.  It is one percent higher than Barclaycard; however it is one of the lowest.  The interest rate is certainly an added benefit in choosing this card.  This card doesn’t offer rewards to you personally.  It is really all about the charity and being able to help others in need.

When you obtain this card you have a 3 percent handling fee for the balance transfers, no annual fee, and you have account management online.  This means you can make sure everything is right with your card and track how many points your spending has earned for donations to breast cancer awareness.

The introductory rate and the lower annual percentage rate make this card a good deal for helping out a charity.  The charity donation is not specified in the advertising.  That is one thing you might want to check on.  It is important to know how much you are donating by having the card.  Sometimes we need a card to actually remember to donate, but you may find the donation is not more than 1 percent per hundred pounds.
