Missed Credit Card Payments

In the last six months there have been over 5 million individuals who have missed a credit card payment according to the research released on January 28th.  In fact it seems that banks are reaping the rewards of having so many late payments.  Banks have earned around sixty million pounds due to the late charges they have been implementing.  The fact is this sixty million in earnings is only in the second half of 2007.  You will find that it is up by eleven million pounds from the first six months of the year.  This is a great deal in earnings for any bank.

There have also been other changes to the credit card company policies in that they have increased other areas in which they can gain from penalty charges as well as other fees.  In fact the interest rates and cash advance fees have increased on many of the credit cards that card holders are in possession of.  You will find that the interest rates on cash advances from machines overseas have increased so steadily that this is another area banks are raking in the funds.

You will find that the higher costs for purchases overseas extend to everything from hiring a car to the hotel bills.  The rates are also very high on restaurant charges as well.  You will find that a number of the credit card companies have instigated the rise in these charges independently, but it makes it difficult to find any attractive deal for consumers.  There has also been a reduction regarding the deals offered by the credit card companies.  Instead of the longer periods of interest free purchases and balance transfers the credit card companies have reduced these times to a mere two months or less.  You will also find that many of the credit card companies have reduced limits in order to preserve their money making schemes.

The credit crunch that seems to be affecting the UK is the reason for many of these changes according to the credit card companies.  They believe by making it harder for the consumers to charge on their credit cards and by having astronomical fees the consumers will no longer default on their credit card payments.

Other areas that are being affected by the credit card changes are the applications that have been entered.  Many of the consumers are finding their credit card applications are being refused for low credit scores or having too much credit outstanding as it is.  This means that there are a number of credit card companies refusing to take on new clients, but earning just as much through the fee changes they have been making.

It is suggested that the total number of card holders who have defaulted rose from around 920,000 to just over five million in the last six months.  This is partly due to the credit crunch that consumers are feeling.  Many of the borrowers are said to be between twenty five and forty four.
