Rewards with Credit Cards
Many of us have believed that credit card reward options are really great because you get a little something extra. On the other hand, if you have had experience you might see them as a little scheming for your business and completely unhelpful. There are two sides to everything that usually meet in the middle for the truth. Credit cards rewards work in a simple way, but there are some regulations to the process. When you spend money on the card you will earn points that can be used for gifts, flights, holidays, and other purposes. There is also the cash back option. There is a proper way to take advantage of these deals, and when you don’t employ it they can be insidious.
The proper way to use a rewards credit card is discipline. You have to pay off the balance every month in full and on time to make the rewards worthwhile, otherwise you are being charged high interest that will make the rewards superfluous. The interest is rather high for most credit cards, especially as it continues to accrue over the year.
Cash back rewards tend to offer better options than the reward points. The reward points will require a great deal of spending for you to earn something free, and in the end it truly isn’t as free as we’d like to believe. If you do your spending on cash back cards you get extra protection due to the Consumer Credit Act, but you also get the money back. There are some point rewards cards that can be rather helpful, but they must be linked to the card provider. In other words GM card allows you to earn rewards points towards a new car. This is a direct link that makes it a little easier to see the rewards. |
